Description: Alzheimer’s disease is associated with loss of memory and has a significant impact on the person. Alzheimer’s is associated with an abnormal build-up of proteins in and around brain cells. Beta-amyloid plaques form around neurons (yellow) and neurofibrillary tangles occur within neurons. Neurons stop functioning, lose connection with other neurons, and eventually die (dark purple).
